HOT TOPICS IN MORTGAGE:

TAX CREDIT EXTENDED!

Congress has passed an extension of the Homebuyer Tax Credit closing deadline, the Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act (H.R. 5623). The extension applies ONLY to transactions that have ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010 that have not yet closed. The legislation is designed to create a seamless extension. The new closing deadline for eligible transactions is now September 30, 2010. There will be no gap between June 30 and the date the President signes the bill into law.

Additionally, the United States Senate has passed the National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2010 (H.R. 5569) an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30, 2010. This will allow transactions to move forward. The bill is retroactive and covers the lapse period from June 1, 2010 to the date of enactment of the extension.

* UNUSED ANNUAL LEAVE
Here's good news for anyone who has ever had to forfeit unused vacation time at the end of the year: The IRS now says employers can let workers transfer the value of that unused leave to their 401(K) or profit-sharing account. You're also in luck if your company allows you to cash out the value of unused leave: Even though you have the choice to take the cash, steering it into a 401(K) would let you avoid the immediate tax hit.

"How
to know if you are really saving money with a refinance -- do NOT refinance your home without reading this!"  By Craig R. Miller

Believe it or not, thousands of people refinance their home every year but ultimately waste hundreds, and, in many cases, thousands of dollars because they fail to do two very simple calculations to see if the loan truly makes sense or will result in significant savings. The following are two calculations that EVERY homeowner should perform before going forward with a refinance transaction:
